Sale of Angling Licenses by Clubs/Provinces

Dear SAUFF Members

SAUFF have, together with the South African Sport Anglers and Casting Confederation (SASACC), been working with the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries to identify initiatives that would benefit both the angler / spearfisher and the government.

We have a meeting with the DAFF Revenue Department next week where we will be discussing the sale of licenses exclusively through SASACC’s recognized fishing facets like SAUFF.

It is worth mentioning that the SA Post Office currently earns in the region of R 9Mil per year for what it currently does as regards the sale of recreational fishing licenses and we believe that if this money was channeled through the organised recreational fishing structure it would be far better spent.

Below are some points I would like you to think about and perhaps add to before replying with your suggestion and feedback.

• SASACC must have exclusivity.
• ONE standard license for recreational saltwater angling sports.
• A two-tier system where a considerable discount is given to members of clubs, which effectively pays for that individuals membership. Something like a R100 license costs R200 if you are not a member of a club. Thereby increasing club memberships and the sports recognised membership.
• The policing of club members becomes the responsibility of the Clubs, Provincial Unions, SAUFF, SAFSSA and ultimately SASACC which will be duly appointed.
• The facets and clubs are permitted to make an agreed upon profit from the sale of licenses.

I will appreciate any feedback, comments or suggestions emailed to me before the end of this Saturday the 4th of September.

Kind regards

Richard Bruno
SAUFF
